Hatch Factor
Hatch Devonshire Red chicks in the classroom.
This is a fun educational scheme that gives Key Stage One children in Devon firsthand experience of the life cycle of chicken, by hatching them in the classroom. It provides an exciting springboard for learning across a range of curriculum areas, with schemes of work and teaching aids supplied as part of the kit.
Even celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is a Hatch Factor fan. "Me and my girls did The Hatch Factor at home. It was amazing. For them to see the chicks emerging from the eggs, then holding them when they're all fluffed up, its
something all kids should get to do."
- The Hatch Factor kits are available at a fee of £60
- We supply six fertilized Devonshire Red eggs, ready to hatch within three days
- We also supply the incubator, easy to follow instructions and everything else you'll need
- You set up the incubator in the classroom and incubate the eggs until they hatch
- You transfer the chicks to the warm 'brooder box' with food and water (all supplied)
- Watch, learn and enjoy as these fluffy chicks grow and develop in the classroom
- Use the schemes of work and teaching aids supplied to make the most of the experience
- The chicks will then be homed at The Big Sheep near Bideford, where children visiting with their families or school can follow their progress.
